Gainesville Wood Floor Refinishing specializes in sanding and refinishing solid wood floors using professional quality fast curing low VOC water based coatings. We started sanding solid wood floors around 1999 in and around the downtown area for friends and word-of-mouth clients. This formed into the company Gainesville Wood Floors. North central florida has a long history of natural solid wood floors, we are proud to be a part of bringing their beauty back to life.

The PROCESS

We begin the sanding by using the least aggressive grit sand paper that effectively removes the existing top coat and flattens the floor. We then go through subsequent grits, with the belt and edge sander. For the final sanding, a 5 head, 16″ random orbit multi-sander is used to remove and blend the marks left by the previous machines. After a thorough vacuuming of the job site and the use of micro fiber dusting clothes, we apply one coat of sealer. After the sealer is thoroughly dried, which is typically 6 hours or overnight, we buff the floor smooth, cutting back the inevitable grain raise and errant dust. Next we apply the first top coat. The following day, we once again buff the floor, smoothing the floor again and guaranteeing excellent adhesion for our 2nd and typically final coat. There are some instances where we apply a third coat.
